ISLPR TESTING POLICY

1. Students entering Year 8 or 9 must be in Level 4 before completing the ISLPR test

2. Students entering Year 10 or 11 must be in Level 5 before taking the ISLPR test

If tuition, boarding and/or homestay fees are not received within a five week period from the due date, this non-payment of fees will lead to a termination of the offer of a place in the college and the Department of Immigration, Multicultural and Indigenous Affairs (DIAC) will be notified of the cancellation of the student’s enrolment. This may lead to the cancellation of the student’s visa by DIAC. The college may also institute legal action to recover the unpaid fees through a debt collection agency. Any legal or other costs incurred in recovering payment for unpaid invoices is the responsibility of the student or parent/guardian and are recoverable at law.

PERMANENT RESIDENT (PR) STATUS

A student who is granted PR status during their studies may continue to complete University Foundation Program. The tuition fee is unchanged. Their University Foundation Program provisional offer as an international student will be cancelled but they will be assisted to apply through the respective universities Admissions Centres. The entry criteria and grades required for places in undergraduate studies for permanent residents are determined by the respective Universities’ admissions centre at the time of each intake and are dependent on competition and the availability of places.

ENGLISH LANGUAGE TESTS

The Teachers Registration Board currently recognises three English language testing systems:

The International English Language Testing System [IELTS]
IELTS provides a profile of ability to use English.

The Teachers Registration Board only accepts the Academic Module and not the General training module, and a minimum score of 7 for each of the modules, i.e. for Listening, Reading, Writing and Speaking.

IELTS Academic module provides an assessment of whether candidates are ready to study or train in the medium of English, at undergraduate or postgraduate level.

IELTS test centres operate in 105 different countries. All candidates are tested in Listening, Reading, Writing and Speaking Modules. There is no specific test relating to teaching.

Results for the test are in terms of a band score for each individual module, ranging from 1 (non-User) to 9 (Expert User). The Board requires the applicant to achieve a minimum score of 7 (Good User, has operational command of the language and generally handles complex language well and understands detailed reasoning), for each of the modules, i.e. for Listening, Reading, Writing and Speaking. The Board does, not accept the overall band score where individual module scores are added and averaged.

The International Second Language Proficiency Ratings [ISLPR]
Formerly the Australian Second Language Proficiency Ratings.

ISLPR is a proficiency scale for the macroskills of Listening, Reading, Writing and Speaking. Test results are reported as a level from 0 (Zero Proficiency) to 5 (Native-Like Proficiency).

The Teachers Registration Board will only accept a minimum score of 4 in each of the macroskills of Listening, Reading, Writing and Speaking.

A score of 4 means Vocational Proficiency - can use the English fluently and accurately on all levels - personal, social, and in situations pertinent to their own ‘vocational’ fields.
